Enhancing students’ experience in Holberton School Puerto Rico.

Providing our students the best education possible to train them not only for a job in the Tech industry but for their entire career is our best motivation! In the past few weeks, Holberton School Puerto Rico partnered with local companies to allow its students to grow their skills, diversify their learning pathway and start building their network in the industry.

Let’s focus on the two main ones:

Holberton School’s Tech Saturday Experience for High School students

Holberton School Puerto Rico has joined the Puerto Rico Science, Technology, and Research Trust, and the Puerto Rico Department of Education to provide high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to learn valuable programming skills and explore career opportunities in the Software Engineering field.

Forty-five students from all over Puerto Rico from public and private schools will participate in an 8-week session starting February 26. The group will meet on Saturdays, on-site at the Holberton School state-of-the-art facilities in Santurce.

Current Holberton School students will lead the workshop as participants to learn how to use technology for problem-solving, learn programming languages and develop a simple application. This workshop aims to expose students to a potential field of study that is in high demand, as well as providing students and parents information on alternative educational institutions, such as Holberton School.

We can’t wait to see what these students will do!

Holberton School Puerto Rico and Lockheed Martin reach an agreement to provide apprenticeship opportunities

Holberton School and Lockheed Martin have reached an agreement to provide apprenticeship opportunities for Holberton School Puerto Rico students that are about to finish their first year or Foundations.

Lockheed Martin is one of the largest companies in the aerospace, military support, security, and technologies industry and the world’s largest defense contractor.  Students will report to RMS or rotary and missions systems in operations and IT support. This opportunity will allow students to work on a part-time basis while they complete their Specialization at Holberton School.
The apprenticeship will last for approximately a year, and students will receive compensation as well as valuable work experience which may translate into a permanent position when the apprenticeship will be completed satisfactorily.

Many Holberton School students are career switchers and had to quit their jobs to study full-time at Holberton School. Even if students do not pay while attending school, living expenses can put enormous financial pressure on them. This paid apprenticeship will allow the student to focus on completing their education by removing some of that pressure while enriching their education and professional experience.

We anticipate this will be the beginning of a long-standing collaboration.

Those partnerships will help students through experiencing real-life practice and experimenting with their skills in a dynamic environment. We couldn’t have asked for better partnerships for our Holbies! Interested to join Holberton School in Puerto Rico? Visit their website!

We are keeping on going like this, always allowing students to improve their skills in many different ways. Let’s do this!
